K.R.S. McEntire Slays Eleven Questions

1). Tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is K.R S. McEntire and I write young adult speculative fiction with diverse characters. However, I have a few anthology stories that are new adult or adult books. I'm in the process of finishing up my Eden trilogy (Saving Eden, Finding Eden, and Making Eden) with a third book right now. When I’m not writing I'm traveling, hiking, or watching too much TV.

2). Who is your favorite vampire author?

I’m going to have to go with Tananarive Due, even though her African immortals were not “technically” vampires. I love her writing style. Her short story Free Jim’s Mine was amazing and I have The Good House on my TBR list.

3). If you had the choice, would you be a vampire?

I don’t think I could be a vampire. I love the sun too much. If I had my way I’d be living on a beach instead of in the middle of landlocked Indiana.

4). Who is your favorite vampire?

Louis from Interview with the Vampire. I think I like the idea of a vampire who still has a conscience to wrestle with.

5). What do you like the most about Slay?

I love all things supernatural! Some of my favorites reads when I was a teen were The Mediator series by Meg Cabot (ghost love story) and Twilight. I’d never encountered Black ghosts, vampires, or paranormal creatures until I read Tananarive Due as a college student. I think the representation we are bringing in SLAY is important.

6). What inspired you to write Encounters?

I have always been drawn to stories about the meaning of life, mortality, and eternal life. I think it’s one of the reasons I enjoyed books like Tuck Everlasting and Twilight as I was growing up.

7). Tell us a bit about your story.

My story is about a woman who runs into her “dead” husband at an airport a week before her wedding to her new man. Turns out he’s not dead, but has been hiding overseas for the past 20 years as a vampire. He offers her a chance to drink his blood and live forever as a vampire, but will she take it?

8). What do you hope to accomplish with your story?

Honestly, I just hope people enjoy the story! I hope it makes people think about what they would do if offered such a choice.

9). Will there be more stories of Encounters?

I’d love to write another vampire novel. I think we need a Twilight or The Mediator for this generation, but hopefully we can add some diversity to the mix. I think I'd come up with a new cast of characters rather than using the characters from Encounters.

10). How do we keep up with all things K. R. S. McEntire?

You can find me on facebook and instagram!

You can also check out my page Diverse Fantasy and Sci-Finds: https://www.facebook.com/DiverseFSF/ where I share book recommendations.

11). What advice would you give to Slay readers about this anthology?

Leave a review and check out the author's other work. It's hard for all indie authors to get their name out there and can be even harder for authors of color or authors who write diverse characters.
